Jack Briggs and Melanie Herbert, partners in an Penn Engineering ESE 2150 lab, developed a prototype for a surgical biopsy device using a Raspberry Pi and Arducam. Originally intended as an analog plotter using DC motors and an Arduino, the team reworked their project to recognize and map areas of discoloration or darkness on the skin, and use the plotter to make precise incisions at the identified coordinates. The prototype was developed and tested at the Architechs makerspace and aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of biopsy procedures.
